Classic walk: Gemmipass Sunnbüel

30% cheaper travelling on aerial cableways

The historic link between the Bernese Oberland and Valais offers magnificent views. The starting point is either Kandersteg or Leukerbad. The mountain hike is impressive in both directions and is also suitable for families. From Kandersteg, the Kandersteg-Sunnbüel aerial cableway takes you up to Sunnbüel. The route leads over the Spittelmatte towards the Berghotel Schwarenbach and through the Rundhöcker landscape over the Seestutz to the Daubensee. Afterwards, you reach the Gemmi Pass via the boulder slope, where you can enjoy the view of the Valais Mountain giants.

You should plan around 3.5 hours for this 9-kilometre hike. Along the way you will find refreshment facilities at the start and finish points as well as halfway along the route at the Berghotel Schwarenbach.

If you prefer a more challenging hike, we recommend the alternative route from Sunnbüel to Gemmi. This takes around 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Kandersteg and Leukerbad can be easily reached by public transport.

Benefit from the following when you purchase an outbound and return ticket by public transport at the same time:
