Discover the St. Beatus Caves

Unique cave landscape under the earth

Around 14 kilometres of the extensive cave system of the St. Beatus Caves have been explored so far. You can explore 1 kilometre of it on your own during your visit. The paths through the cave passages are secured and easily passable thanks to modern electric lighting. The tour of the caves takes you through huge stalactite formations, wide halls and gorges. Let yourself be enchanted by the unique shapes and colours.

A tour lasts about 60 minutes. Along the way, 25 information panels in German and English provide background information about the St. Beatus Caves. You can also download the St. Beatus app free of charge from the Apple Store or Google Play. This will give you even more detailed information about the caves.

Photography and filming are permitted in the cave. However, please be considerate of the other guests. Tripods are not allowed in the cave (can be deposited at the ticket office).

The constant temperature in the caves is 8 to 10 degrees all year round. We therefore recommend that you bring warm clothing. For safety reasons, prams and wheelchairs are not allowed.

Admission to the cave museum is included in the price. With modern and versatile presentation techniques, the contents of the cave museum are presented in a simple, understandable and interesting way. With the inclusion of interactive activities and the senses (seeing, hearing, feeling), an active and lasting museum experience is to be conveyed. On request, you can receive information on the 11 thematic areas by means of an audio guide in German, French or English. The visit is rounded off with the new Beatus Shop, which awaits you with a wide range of regional products! The cave museum is located in the Waldhaus down on the main road and is a real alternative for people who cannot make the ascent to the St. Beatus Caves, e.g. for health reasons.

The new restaurant invites you to linger after a tour of the caves. Indulge in seasonal and regional delicacies and enjoy the breathtaking view of Lake Thun and the surrounding mountains. The children can have fun on a spacious playground with a dragon slide.

Every Friday and Saturday evening the gastro team will surprise you with an exclusive 4-course dinner. A rich brunch buffet is offered every Sunday morning.

By train and bus

Travel comfortably by train to Thun or Interlaken West. Continue by bus to the bus stop «Beatushöhlen» (St. Beatus Caves). A beautiful stroll from the bus stop takes you through the woods and up to the cave entrance (approx. 10 minutes). Along the way, you will cross several bridges and can admire the impressive waterfall as well as enjoy the beautiful view of the sparkling Lake Thun and the surrounding mountains.

By boat

From the boat dock «Beatushöhle-Sundlauenen» a short hike (approximately 25 minutes) leads to the cave entrance and the recently renovated restaurant «Stein & Sein». Timetable Timetable
